In the old age, when a person was recognized by his work and not what his father did. There were people who were naturally aggressive and good at fighting, they became kshatriya, they use to protect others from any danger and hence earned respect, wage and their food.
Some were good in business and use to become Vaishyas. They were merchants and use to buy and sell different things and made profits from the trade to earn their place in society.
When one community was attacked by other, Kshatriyas protected everyone. Given their courage to lay down their lives to protect their land and people, they were often made kings.

When one community was attacked by other, Kshatriyas protected everyone. Given their courage to lay down their lives to protect their land and people, they were often made kings.
Then their were those who cleaned others mess, the Shudhra. Shudhra's earning use to come from doing most of the dirty jobs in the society.
The last and important community was that of guide/teachers or advisors, the Bhramin. Bhramin's earn their livelihood by giving their advice on how to live or what to do. They tagged that since Shudhra's do the dirty jobs, they should not touch anyone else others will become dirty as well. Bhramin's layer out the rules and regulations of the society mostly as per their own comfort or interest. They became part of kings ministry as it was easy money. So as most people worked hard to live and earn, bhramin's got the easy way out.
Not much has changed in India even today, yes there is a segment of population which do not follow all that is told to them, but our society is still governed by these bhramin's. Though everyone work to own a place in society, bhramin's still enjoy the superior position.
Shouldn't we value more of our work, choices, thoughts and comfort than follow someone who had hardly experienced what we have gone through. Where does all the money donated in temples go? Why do we spend so much on Pooja which has no direct result. Cant we have a better use for it. Why can't we donate the same for education, medical and development.
Generation next has a lot to change, something which their elders didn't do.
The connection between Brahman and attending pooja or going in temple is quite wrong. Casts were formed as per the jobs or task that a group of people used to perform. the job of Brahmans were not only limited to giving advises and doing pooja but they were also responsible for educating the society. Guru Dronacharya who taught kaurava's and pandwa's about weapon training and war tactics was a bramhin. so even if you are a kshtriya, to learn war strategies, tactics and weapon training you required to attend a yudhashala that was run by a brahman. Education plays a very vital role for the development of the society. brahmins were not only the advisers but also astrologers, doctors, teachers, and ritual performers right from birth to death. for any small or big problem people used to consult brahmins because of their intellectual levels, so by saying this that they did useless and thankless jobs to earn money is wrong.
ReplyDeletesecondly nowhere it is written in Hindu mythology that temple visits and donating money is compulsory. The god does not need any of it. this is all man made. again don't blame it on Brahmans because people from all castes visit temples and as per their pocket size, they donate money in temple. This is not only in Hindu religion but you will find it in all religions. when you do a Pooja you chant some shlokas which create particular frequencies in the universe which is scientifically proven by American scientists. These chanting creates a positive aura which gives you positive outlook for the life. God help those who help themselves. so the results are again in your hand. ultimately hard work and good deeds pay you good things in life. Regarding money as i said earlier also there is no need to donate it in temple instead you can either use money to feed poor or to educate someone or in hospitals so that the needy can afford a good treatment on time. so there are various ways that people can help the society. so don't develop any wrong notions or simply draw wrong conclusions on the name of cast-ism or god or temple.
Hi Nikita,
ReplyDeleteThanks for your comment. My response -
I never said that there is any connection between bhramins. I agree that bhramins did teaching and as you said Guru Dronacharya was teacher of kaurav and pandav but let me wasn't he a biased teacher. How? He declined teaching Karna as he was not from a Kshatriya family while taught his own son in the same camp. He not just declined Eklavya but asked him to cut his right thumb for being afraid that he is better than his favorite Arjun.
Now tell me what kind of teacher he was? A good teacher see no difference in giving his teaching, isn't it. So just to remain good as raj guru he did what all he can to support princes.
Yes I agree in times of problem people went to bhramins for the advice which happen to this date as well and that's exactly the point I wanted to make with this post that throughout bhramins have showcased themselves as the superior class and people and people have believed this. But this thing need to be changed.
On the second part, first let me correct you that all mythologies speaks about gods house, donating money has just came out as a by product as firstly for maintenance and later as greed. Do you know that there are temples in India where young girls are donated as sevikas to god idols and are used by temple pujaries? If shlokas have magical thing in them, I would recommend you to try Vande Matram, it has better effect.
Look I am not drawing any conclusion here, specifically on cast. Firstly I dont believe in them personally. Secondly I am just presenting my thoughts on do we need to follow the rules or rituals made in past and have very little or no significance now and following what bhramin say from birth to death and even after death is one of them.
